Original work on the rink was due to begin in 2014 however the contractors didn’t move onto site until 2016. Poor management and damage from high winds only added to delays in construction.
Well today we found out that the sites developers, Planet Ice, are aiming to open the brand new ice rink in late January 2019.
After 3 years of setbacks since construction begun in 2016, the developer have now said that the 1,800 capacity ice’s rink structure is over 70% completed and are please with the pace that construction is advancing at.
Along with a great new attraction for Leeds the ice rink will create a number of new jobs for the city.
The ice rink is located directly behind the Elland Road football stadium and just over the road from the West Yorkshire Police headquarters.
Computer generated designs show the sheer scale of the building.
Initial mock designs show the outer structure as a square shape however the building is more likely to resemble that of the Cardiff Arena.
