This years Leeds’ Christmas lights will be tuned on by Rio champions Alistair and Jonny Brownlee. Otherwise know as the Brownlee brothers.

The brothers will turn on the lights alongside Paralympic gold medallist Kadeena Cox, and will be joined by X Factor’s James Wilson and performances from girlband, Stooshe.

Double Olympic gold medallist, Alistair said

“We’re incredibly proud and excited to be switching on the Christmas lights in our home town.

“The people of Leeds have given us so much support and encouragement through the years and knowing the city is behind us has always helped spur us on whenever we’re competing around the world.”

Where and when will the lights be switched on?

The lights will be turned on in Victoria Gardens on Thursday, November 10 at 6.45pm, with the event running until 8pm.

What else is going on?

Leeds city centre will play host to the German Christmas Market which is set up each year over the festive season.

The traditional German market consists of over 40 wooden chalet stalls selling everything from bratwurst sausages to Christmas gifts and cards.

The market is situated in Millenium Square in the city centre and runs from November 11 to December 18.
