It’s no secret that Christmas is often the most expensive time of the year. Buying presents for family, friends, and pets in some cases can have a big impact on your finances. But did you know there are some smart tricks you can do to get discounts on your gifts?
Top retailers will be running discounts on the run-up to Christmas on days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday but you won’t always be able to get a discount on the item you would like to buy.
This is where using some nifty little tools whilst shopping online might work better for you.
Honey is a clever little browser extension for the world’s most popular web browser, Google Chrome. Retailers often run promotions that can be claimed during the checkout process. Honey works by automatically searching the web for the best discount codes. When you get to a website’s checkout, Honey will apply the discount codes until it finds the one that will save you the most money.
In our testing, we were able to save up to 50% at some retailers with Honey finding discount codes for the majority of them.
If you want to try it out, the Honey extension can be found here but it does require you to be using a laptop or desktop computer as the extension is not available for mobile devices.
If you don’t have a computer at hand there are still some tricks you can try. Retailers will often email you a discount code if you simply leave the items you want to purchase in your online shopping basket. Simply add the items you wish to buy then wait to see if you received an email from them offering you a discount. This does not always work but it’s worth a try if you are not in a rush to buy your items.
The other trick you can try is talking to the websites AI chatbot. That’s right, we said talk to a computer. A lot of websites have started using these chatbots to assist potential customers with any questions they might have. Try typing in “discount” or “promotion” into these chat boxes as some of them are able to respond and give you a discount code.
